July 2012 at our garden in Japan
It's terribly hot in Japan now.
In Kochi prefecture, which is situated at the the west of Japan, the temperature has been more than 40 degrees for 4 consecutive days.
My mother- in -law, who is living in Kyoto, told me that the highest reading of the temperature there was 38 degrees.
Before leaving Japan in the month of June, I prepared some salted plums for Ume-boshi as it is our custom in the rainy season .For us the pickled plums are a traditional soul food which goes well with rice balls , plain rice and porridge . In Singapore these are very expensive!

I imported the bottles of plums last month and they are here finally.
Now, I am thinking of how to dry them here .Initially I tried to sun dry mini tomatoes with a little salt but they turned mouldy so I realized that they need higher temperature and less moisture.
Maybe, I shall dry them using an electric fan under the hot sun here.
I am pretty sure that the salted plums do appreciate the strong sunshine in Japan .
